EN 1433 is a European standard that specifies the requirements for linear drainage channels that are installed for the discharge of surface water from pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic areas. The standard defines requirements and guidelines, including load classes, design and test requirements, for designation and quality control. In EN 1433 "Drainage channels for vehicular and pedestrian areas", the drainage channels are sub-divided into the classes A 15 to F 900. The classes correspond to different test forces and installation locations (see load classes):

 

A 15 = 15 kN test force
B 125 = 125 kN test force
C 250 = 250 kN test force
D 400 = 400 kN test force
E 600 = 600 kN test force
F 900 = 900 kN test force




A grating is the loadbearing element that closes a drainage channel at the top. Usually, the component is made of ductile iron, galvanised steel, stainless steel or composite material. Integrated inlet openings of various designs allow surface water to drain into the channel. Gratings protect the channel from debris such as leaves, sand and stones. In addition, it protects pedestrians and vehicles against injury and damage when crossing the channel..
